Why do laptops slow down?

Why laptop slows down and how to solve this problem

Greetings to all the readers of my humble blog, in touch with you as always Yuriy Vatsenko   and today I want to describe such a very spicy problem, namely, why the laptop is slowing down. As you know, laptops are very useful devices, but very often they can fail.

My laptop, which I bought back in 2008, went to find parts for a long time, but, for the time I had it, I realized a lot. For example, I have already learned how to clean it from dust, do defragmentation, do not remove it from my laptop, install antivirus software, and so on. In this article, I will talk about the main reasons why laptops can lose their work, so read carefully.

And so, as you know, laptops are indispensable helpers in our activities. For example, when I get tired of working for my computer, I go to bed and work on a laptop, which of course is much better. Well, this is the case, and our topic is this, to understand why the performance of some laptops over time declines.

Of course, we can say that over time all laptops lose their power, but most of all the problems with them rest exactly on our knowledge no. For example, very often laptops start working badly because they are infected with viruses and malicious programs, which greatly hinders its work.

Well, let's look at the main problems that can arise with laptops, then what, it can be very "buggy".

Such problems may be:

  •   - improper use of the laptop;
  •  - Laptop heating;
  •  - various viruses and malicious programs;
  •  - little space is left in machine C;
  •  - dust and dirt on the laptop;
  •  - lack of software.

As you can see, the problems of such a slowdown or deterioration of work can be completely different, ranging from improper operation to various viruses, which are very numerous on the Internet. Let’s look at some types of problems in more detail, especially since some of these problems are solved very easily.

Why do laptops come to rest?

There are many such problems, but let’s stick to the simplest, most banal and current way. Most of these users, sitting on the internet, download various programs, movies, music, clips, books and so on. And, after using these files, they are not deleted, so when such files are printed too much, then the laptop, of course,

Especially it has to do with different programs. I myself used to constantly download from the Internet various editors, photoshop versions, audio programs, computer games, which I have never played. That's right, so if you are such a person, then you should remove all the excess junk from your laptop, alas, and ah, but the memory in it is not rubber. Imagine I had a laptop whose memory was only 120 gigabytes and about 100 GB was full, it is not clear what. The horror is simple, when my friend advised me to remove everything, it was somewhat merciful, but, once I did that, my laptop started working much faster.

Therefore, I advise you to use my advice and remove unnecessary programs that you do not need, movies that you have already watched, music that you have not listened to for a long time. It will give you an excellent result that I assure you.

In order to remove all this junk you need to go to "Control Panel" - "Remove Programs". Is it difficult? Yes, there is nothing complicated, just go to the panel and see what you need and what is not. By the way, on drive C you have the "Windows" folder, this is just where you do not need to delete anything, as this can severely disrupt the operation of your device.

Go ahead, laptop overheating - a very important problem. I remember when I bought my laptop, I was even told by the seller that you need to constantly monitor the temperature of your device. For this, I recommended a program called " Everest ". So it shows the overall temperature of the laptop as well as the temperature in its cores. After installing this program, you can track this parameter yourself. For example, I saw whatever the temperature is greater than 70, as soon as it was close to this mark, I turned off the laptop for 10-15 minutes, let it cool.

This is a fairly broad problem, namely, laptop overheating, which I have long tortured. Especially disgusted when watching a movie or playing a game, and then the bout noutub got itself up and off. Then it was necessary to pull the battery, disconnect from the mains and wait for 10 minutes to cool down. The same thing you do, let your device rest a bit.

Viruses and other programs can greatly slow down your home computer performance. For example, if you have a sore, "worm", it can remove all the important files on your computer, moreover, it can remove important programs that are needed to maintain a normal functioning.

I'm not going to talk about what the best antivirus, I use the antivirus license "Avast", which I was happy with everything. Honestly, I have downloaded the free version, but recently reviewed its attitude and do not regret 1000 rubles for the purchase of the product license. I will honestly tell you that antivirus is just great, it updates and scans dangerous threats.

Generally, you should have a good antivirus installed that you want to do, but I would recommend 1 out of 3, for example: " Kaspersky ", "Avast", "Node 32" antivirus . I do not know if the others are good, but the fact that the data is normal laptops scan and PC for viruses, so it is correct. Download or purchase licenses for antivirus software, install them and, trust me, your computer will work much better.

Next, a special attention, I would like to highlight a problem called the small space left in the car C. In general, as you already know, that the machine is designed to be installed there: Windows   and programs other service (useful). Therefore, do not forget that at least 10-20 GB should always be left on this disk, otherwise the work will be slowed down.

To always keep this memory in the right amount, simply delete all you do not need to drive C. Remember that clutter on your computer you no good will not.

Go ahead ...
  Another such problem could be laptop dust and its pollution. Again, over time, there will be a lot of dust on your computer, which will greatly interfere with proper functioning. Look, the dust, which, for example, settles on the fan, will prevent its normal cooling. On the other hand, the processor and motherboard will not cool down quickly, and this will cause a rapid overheating and further problems.

In order to clean up, I just twisted the bottom cover of the laptop. It was still necessary to remove the plate, next to the fan and then it was possible to get a fan. Gently rubbed it, then took a vacuum cleaner and carefully cleaned the dust board. Well, here is even such a simple procedure gives a good effect, whatever can be said.

If you do not clean laptop ummah, or afraid to do it, in any computer store or a service you do, the truth will have to pay 200-300 $$ so. Well, if you feel sorry for this money, then you can do it yourself, only, most importantly, do it carefully.

Sometimes, the laptop can be very buggy because it does not have some software set up, such as driver for video card or a sound. Look for installed programs, and maybe there is something missing, if so, download and install from the internet, the benefit of this can be done in 5-10 minutes.

So the question of why it can slow down your laptop is so simple and you will not give an answer.

If this happens to you, then:

  • clean it of dust;
  • check the memory on the computer, if it is small, then delete all unnecessary;
  • look at drive C, there may not be enough memory;
  • Install antivirus and scan your laptop;
  • install the appropriate programs , if required.

That's all you need to do if your laptop is badly buggy. There is nothing complicated in this, but it is still necessary to treat this issue responsibly.

I hope the topic: why did the brake noutuk open, if I forgot something, then correct me, write your thoughts and questions in the comments. For this I have everything, thanks for reading this post.

Sincerely, Yuriy Vatsenko!

Laptop serves as a real helper for many people who need to work with computer programs while away from home or office. This is very frustrating when the opportunity to work with this unit is limited to an expensive one for some new "bugs" and "brakes". Let’s look at why the laptop slows down what to do in such situations and how to identify the alleged cause of this device “behavior”.

Fragmentation

Data on laptops (as well as PCs) is stored on the hard disk. The physical areas on the disk surface on which information is actually stored are called sectors. A set of sectors placed continuously on the surface of a disk is called a cluster. When data is written to a low-density disk, clusters are populated with information in sequence, and large folders occupy several clusters in order.

However, it often happens that large files are split between clusters that are far apart from each other on the disk surface. This happens when there is little free disk space, or when it is repeatedly filled and cleared by deleting files. This method of recording is called fragmentation. Accessing a fragmented file requires reading information from different parts of the disk surface. This, in turn, requires an increase in the amount of mechanical work performed inside the disk, and the laptop is very slow. In such situations, you can quite often hear a sound similar to running a small high-speed motor.

The process of reorganizing files to reduce their fragmentation is called defragmentation. It is performed using the standard services of each operating system. Windows systems   (Start - \ u003e All Programs - \ u003e Accessories - \ u003e System Tools - \ u003e Defragmentation).

Dusting

The dust, which gets inside the laptop, settles on the microwave surfaces of the device. As a result, the heat transfer capacity of the chips body is reduced. Because of this, the processor, memory chips and other chips overheat. The speed of semiconductor devices decreases with increasing temperature. Therefore, if the laptop started to slow down over time, the reason may be a lot of dust settling on its internal surfaces. A sign of this situation may be an increase in the housing temperature of the appliance.

To get rid of dust, it is necessary to disassemble the laptop and treat it from the inside using a special vacuum cleaner and, if necessary, perform manual dust cleaning.

Attention, please! It is not recommended to disassemble, and even more so to perform maintenance work with "iron" laptop person without special training. Therefore, if you suspect that you have encountered a problem that requires disassembly of the device case, do not skimp on the services of the service center.

viruses

These programs, which affect computer devices, can be "found" all over the Internet. Using anti-virus systems and updating them regularly does not give a 100% guarantee that your computer is infected with viruses (however, antivirus with the current database greatly reduces the chance of infection, so its use is needed, if you are using the internet). If you notice that your laptop is slowing down, you may have gotten one or more viruses.

Perform a thorough system search for viruses. Start by checking your drives and RAM for a regular virus scan, then download one of the services that do not require the installation of another company (they distribute almost all manufacturers of anti-virus software for free) and scan your computer with its help. The use of products by two or three manufacturers is likely to detect all suspicious objects.

On the other hand, antiviruses themselves can cause "brakes". For example, if you run the same game, or the same software, which requires a large amount of system resources (such as Photoshop or video editors), the antivirus can every time it scans what it will leave a lot of time. In some cases, virus scanning may run in parallel with the software. This will not only lead to a long term   program, but also to reduce its performance. Therefore, it is advisable to add some programs to the trusted area of anti-virus software.

compromises

When you buy a desktop computer, you pay for the performance. Buying a laptop you, in addition, pay for the compactness of the device, which is very cheap. Therefore, one of the reasons why the laptop slows down may be insufficient system performance. It is not surprising that a $ 1000 laptop is slower than a computer priced at, for example, $ 700. Buying a laptop, the user should realize that he is compromising on system speed. Expecting a mid-priced laptop to pull the latest 3D games, at least, naive. To do this, you need to pay the amount of 1.5 thousand dollars.

In addition to games, resources can "swallow" and OS. For example, installing Win7 on a laptop that was designed for Win XP could significantly reduce performance. "Seven" require at least 4GB of DDR5 memory and the presence of at least one dual-core processor.

Many users, especially those whose patience is running out very quickly, complain about the speed performance of the laptop. Brakes, tupit! and in the rage hammer on the laptop keyboard, hit the lid or throw the laptop out the window :)

Why do laptops slow down? It is very important to understand what exactly it calls braking: Long boot of the operating system? When it goes long, long the trunk - the backbone of progress and the desktop appears after 5-10 minutes of exhaustion and do something you can only after a further 5 minutes ... Maybe the laptop impossible to wait, but when is it loaded? or tupenie, hovering and braking starts after running specific programs, opening various folders and other objects?

The reasons .... are not so many, if you consider the reasons for the categories. Problems with operating system and drivers, viruses - all of these cases are related only to software problems that can be solved by completely reinstalling the operating system. If you have a lot of information on the laptop, this complicates the process of replacing the operating system.

Problems with the laptop hard drive or slowing down and slowing down when you start (load) the laptop.

Usually this is due to the depreciation of a laptop hard drive - it eventually emerges "low-read" and bad-sectors (non-read segments, regions). Such places are read very slowly and as a rule they are located at the very "boot" of the hard drive. The recipe for happiness is simple = replacing the hard drive with a job.

Problems with the operating system

With any operating system, sooner or later, the problem starts and it does not matter what exactly is installed on your laptop: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Linux (Ubuntu, Mandriva, Fedora), MAC OS. Of course, we can not ignore the human factor - it is very likely to be crucial. It happens that users agree to all offers for the installation of plug-ins, widgets and various add-ons from the Internet or during the installation of any program. as a result, in autoloding there is a whole taboo of completely unnecessary software, which requires a long time to start and eats both loading time and free CPU and RAM time.

In general, the list of problems, i.e. the causes for the creation of these problems, can be large and even in the course of material study it is not always possible to understand and eliminate them. This ends, most often, by reinstalling the entire operating system. Or, rarely, restore from a backup or a previously saved image (image). The price of the case depends on the specifics of the situation, but as a rule, partial storage of information and recovery of the OS rarely cost more than 1,000 $. Too often, such improvements are associated with any upgrades to the laptop or computer, since installing the operating system with new hardware does not complicate the installation itself and does not make it longer and more expensive. Rather, it can save a good amount of time. For example,

Viruses, Trojans, the consequences of infections

Malicious software - This is how you can generalize by talking about viruses, trojans and other dangerous phenomena. The purposes of creating this malicious software are very different (this code is also created by someone) and, depending on this, the consequences can be felt. Reduced computer performance occurs due to its heavier load and non-optimal distribution of computer resources. For example, a laptop can be infected with a trojan that sends Internet cores to the Internet, or system files can be modified and their suboptimal code executed with errors, overloading the processor and memory ... there may be reasons to others. If you want to test your laptop for viruses and trojans,

There are plenty of reasons for this. We will discuss what happens most often.

Wrong south bridge or system chipset. According to statistics, they prefer to gradually die from the bridge GBM (especially GBM) HBM, IBM, ATI ixp 450 ixp 460 (sb460), MCP67mv-a2 and many others. It appears as a rule the loss of some functions, but very often the problematic operation of devices that depend on the health of this chip. When the laptop is loaded on it, it can start shaking the boot sound (melody when the OS is loaded), run the progress program for a long time (download indicator), after the desktop has been displayed for a long time operating system   can not react to mouse actions and generally the cursor can be shaken on the screen when trying to perform any action with the mouse. Replacing a damaged chip usually costs about 3.5-5 thousand rubles and takes several hours - in fact it is called repairing the motherboard of a laptop by replacing a BGA chip. It is also possible to replace the laptop motherboard.

Questions about this nature are often asked (as in the title of the article). I recently got a similar question and decided to give up a short post on the blog (by the way, it is not even necessary to think of topics, the people themselves indicate what they are interested in).

In general, an old laptop - this is rather a relatively simple one from the word Different people means different things to someone old - this is what they bought a year and a half ago, for others - a device, which is already 10 years old and older. It is difficult to give advice without knowing what particular device in question, but I will try to give a "Universal" instruction on how to reduce the amount of brakes on the old device. So ...

1) Select OS (operating system) and programs

No matter how sad it may sound, the first thing that needs to be decided is the operating system . Many users do not even look at the requirements and put in place of Windows XP - Windows 7 (although on a laptop 1 GB RAM). No, the computer will work, but they are equipped with braking. I do not know what the point - to work on the new operating system, but with the brakes (in my opinion, it is better in XP, moreover, that this system is reliable and good (so far , although many have criticized him and)).

In general, the message here is simple: Look at the system requirements of your OS and your device, compare and choose the best option. I do not comment here anymore.

Just a few words about choosing programs. I hope everyone understands that the program algorithm and whether the language in which it is written - it depends on the speed of implementation and the amount of resources it will require. So sometimes when solving the same problem - software works differently in different ways, especially visible on older PCs.

I, for example, still found the time when everyone praised WinAmp when playing pictures ( really, system settings now, kill, I do not remember ) Often confiscated and "chewed", despite the fact that nothing started, but that. At the same time, DSS ( is a DOS player, now, perhaps, no one has heard of it yet ) played smoothly, and, clearly.

Now I'm not talking about such an old gland, but still. Most often, older laptops want to fit into any task (for example, see / receive mail as any directory as a small shared file exchanger, just like a backup PC).

Therefore, some tips:

  • Antivirus: I'm not an avid opponent of antivirus, but all the same, why do not you need your old computer, where everything is slow, it is necessary? In my opinion, it is better sometimes to check drives and windows of third-party apps that do not need to install the system. You can see them in this article:
  • Audio and video players: the best way   - download 5-10 players and check each one yourself. Decide quickly which one is best to use. My thoughts on this issue can be found here:
  • Browser: in his review article for 2016. I brought some antiviruses a little easy, they can be used (). You can also use the link above, given to players;
  • I recommend that you get a range of cleaning and maintenance services in Windows. I have acquainted the readers with the best in this article:

2) Windows OS optimization

Have you ever thought that two laptops with the same features, and even with the same software - can run at different speeds and stability: one is hanging, braking, and the second is bright enough to open and close play videos and music, and software.

All issues in the operating system settings, in the "trash" on the hard disk, in general, in the so-called optimization . Overall, this point is worthy of a whole great article, here I give you something basic to do and I will give you the Links (thanks to these articles on optimizing the operating system and cleaning it up - I I have a "sea"!):

  • Disable unnecessary services : by default, there are many services that many do not need. For example, Windows auto-update - in many cases because of this there are brakes, simply updated manually (once a month, for example);
  • Setting a theme, Aero environment - a lot depends on the theme chosen. The best option is to choose a classic theme. Yes, the laptop will be similar to the Windows 98 PC at the time - but the resources will be saved (still most people do not spend most of their time looking at the desktop);
  • Schedule Auto Backup : Many people turn on the computer for a long time and start braking immediately after turning it on. Usually, this is due to the fact that in Windows startup there are dozens of programs (from the stream in which hundreds of files, for all sorts of weather forecasts).
  • Disk defragmentation : from time to time (especially if the file system is FAT 32, and can often be found on older laptops) it is necessary to defragment. Programs for this - a huge amount, you can do something;
  • Cleaning Windows of "tails" and temporary files : often when you uninstall the program - from it there are various files, registry entries (such unnecessary data is called "tails"). All of this is necessary, from time to time, to be deleted. Links to the resulting utility packages (built into pure Windows, in my opinion, this can not afford);
  • Scan for viruses and adware : Some types of viruses can affect performance. You can get acquainted with the best antivirus software in this article:;
  • Checking the load on the CPU, which applications it creates:   there are such that the task manager shows the CPU load by 20-30%, and the applications that load it - no! In general, if you suffer from an incomprehensible processor load, then this is what we are talking about.
